Description

This on-demand online course is for professionals at any level in HEI working with students and registered NMH support workers wanting to upskill themselves to work as specialized ASC mentors or Study Skills and Strategy Support in higher education in the UK.

There is large crossover (co-morbidity) between autism and ADHD. For those with a prior diagnosis of ADHD, there is a 20% rate of autism, for those with a prior diagnosis of ASD, there is a 40% rate of ADHD. It is therefore highly likely that as an NMH support worker you will engage with ADHD students, either with a single ADHD diagnosis or with a diagnosis of both autism and ADHD.

Through an accessible, interactive, and immersive learning format, course participants are introduced to both theoretical constructs, empirical evidence, lived experience, and student voice content.

Effective support can not only transform a neurodivergent student’s experience and academic success in higher education but has the power to set a student on a trajectory of increased independence, better mental wellbeing, enhanced self-awareness, and self-advocacy.

This course allows committed professionals to walk away empowered to apply best practice strategies to mentoring and study skills support relationships and help students thrive in their higher education context.
